My Story – Why I Do the Work I Do

My name’s Spencer Babcock. I help individuals and organizations share their story using design and video. Everyone has a story. What story are you or your organization telling? I can help you make your story come alive, to ultimately connect with your audience.

My story of how I came to do the work I do began from a young age before learning to ride a bike or even read. I remember, I would fill pages and pages with drawings from my imagination. Along the journey of expanding my passion for art and creativity, I also developed my desire to help people. Helping people has brought me great joy. Experiencing that joy led me to do things as a teenager, like donating most of my summer savings to the needy and skipping sleep-in Sunday mornings to go help feed to homeless.

At one point I remember feeling a conflict brewing within me. Part of me really wanted to follow a profession that would include creating beautiful objects. While another part of me wanted to find a way to help those in need. I wondered if I would be able to find a way to do both.

I continued to enhance my creative skills over the years. I also took advantage of opportunities to help others. One of my first jobs after college was working for a non-profit after school program for youth. It was there that I helped that organization find away to tell their story.

It became clear to me that helping others tell their stories was the right work for me, when I was helping children at a remote school in the Himalayas of Asia. I was there for over a year with my wife and two year old son. We did many different things during our time there. One thing I did was help a group of students create a Kickstarter video. That video successfully helped them get the needed funds to buy costumes, ultimately supporting them in their effort to preserve their culture and traditions before they were lost.

These experiences taught me how I could use my creativity to help individuals and organizations, while also helping fulfill my desire to help those in need. I’m so incredibly happy when I’m able to help people and organizations better connect with their audience and find a way to share their story. Lets work together to help you share your story and cultivate real success!

One person I helped said, “You have help save our organization so much money and so much time, thank you!”

When I think about the work I do, this quote comes to mind.

“A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both.”

~ François-René de Chateaubriand – French writer
